Youth Wilderness Survival Class
Build confidence, independence and outdoor skills! This hands-on wilderness survival class with instructor Bryan Drews is designed for students ages 8 to 17 who are curious about nature and learning how to safely explore the outdoors — observing surroundings, identifying natural resources, understanding wildlife behavior, and practicing outdoor safety.
Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:15-5:30 PM at the High School:
Week 1 (Oct 5 & 7) — Shelter & Tools: build basic shelters and safely use outdoor tools
Week 2 (Oct 12 & 14) — Fire & Water: essential safety, water awareness, and campfire fundamentals
Week 3 (Oct 19 & 21) — Food & Wildlife: understanding animal behavior and tracking signs of wildlife
Week 4 (Oct 26 & 28) — Navigation: finding direction, reading natural cues, and what to do if lost
A school bus transports students from HES and FES to the High School; parents pick up at High School Door #1 at 5:30 PM sharp. Please bring a notebook and pencils, and dress for the weather and outdoor exploration!
